Lone Gull Coffee House Information

Tucked right along the harbor-facing stretch of Gloucester, Lone Gull Coffee House at Lone Gull Coffee House feels like the kind of place you stumble into once and then make a habit of returning to. The location alone does a lot of the work-just steps from the water, with large windows that let in that soft coastal light-but it’s the atmosphere inside that really settles you in. There’s a casual, slightly weathered charm to the space, with mismatched chairs and local artwork that makes it feel more like a community hangout than a polished café.

The menu leans classic diner-style with a strong breakfast and brunch focus, but there’s enough variety to keep things interesting. On a recent visit, the blueberry pancakes stood out-light, fluffy, and generously dotted with fruit that tasted like it hadn’t traveled far. The lobster benedict is another popular pick, and while it’s a bit of a splurge, the portion size and freshness justify it. Coffee, as you’d expect, is taken seriously here; it’s strong without being bitter, and refills come quickly, which regulars seem to appreciate. There’s also a rotating selection of baked goods-muffins, scones, and the occasional surprise-that pair well with a slow morning.

Service tends to be friendly and unpretentious, though it can get a little stretched during peak hours. That said, the staff usually keeps things moving with a relaxed efficiency, and it never feels rushed. You’ll notice a mix of locals and visitors, which often says a lot about a place’s reputation. Reviews around town consistently highlight the welcoming vibe and reliable food, and that lines up with what you experience in person.

What really makes the spot memorable is how it captures a sense of place. Gloucester has a long fishing history, and while this isn’t a seafood shack per se, there’s a clear connection to the local culture, from the ingredients to the laid-back pace. It’s not trying to reinvent brunch or chase trends, and that’s part of the appeal. The menu is straightforward, the portions are satisfying, and the setting does the rest. If there’s any limitation, it’s that seating can be tight during busy weekends, so timing your visit helps.

What People's Say About Place

Lovely local coffeehouse on Main Street. Coffee is really good and staff is super friendly. They also always play great music. The other day my 10 month old baby accidentally spilled my whole latte all over the floor, and the owner Mariela not only was Super nice about it, but also gave me another coffee free of charge. I will definitely be coming back. Oh, the banana bread was also delicious!

Very nice coffee shop, I tried the maple leaf latte, great environment with sunshine!

Such a fun local spot! Yummy coffee and friendly staff. My favorite part is they have gingerbread flavor year-round, so I know I can count on Lone Gull for a gingerbread latte anytime Pro tip: PAY FOR PARKING. Gloucester doesn't kid about parking tickets.

Nice coffee shop in the north shore! My wife and I were searching for a coffee shop where we could enjoy a coffee and pastry in a nice and comfortable atmosphere and Lone Gull ended up meeting both of our criteria. We ordered a medium coffee, medium vanilla latte and a sugar cookie that had white chocolate chips. Everything was good and the vanilla latte and the right amount of syrup in it. The cookie was fresh and oversized. It was a nice treat. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was cozy. I felt that there were a lot of regulars in there as there was conversation between a few of the patrons. The pricing was very reasonable as our bill came to less than $9 which would normally be closer to $15 if we placed the same order at a Boston-located coffee shop. Nice place and we’ll be back!

Awesome coffee! Came here both days of our weekend visit to Gloucester it was so good. Service was very friendly and made us feel like regulars. The seating area is closed due to covid, but there is a marvelous collection of potted plants displayed on the tables that were fun to look at. Highly recommend the Cuban Latte (if you want a sweet treat) and their branded baseball cap as a souvenir!

Gloucester is one of those place where the people make you feel your family. The Lone Gull is no exception. It's the perfect size, not big, not to small. very comfortable seating. Clean well lit. The food is great, I mostly have had the pastries and they were fresh, right out of the oven fresh. I love coffee so.... an important factor in determining if I'll come back is the quality of you basic coffee. It was Excellent! My Barista was warm, friendly, and very knowledgeable. I try to stop by whenever I'm in Gloucester.

The cuban latte was perfectly done. Ok I do like richly flavored sweet things. A double shot of espresso, 2 spoons of brown sugar and steaming hot half and half cream. This for me is up there with the authentic Cuban cafe con leche you find down in those little Cuban restaurants in Florida.

Really tasty coffee blend, with nutty/chocolate notes. Reasonably priced despite inflated costs lately. The staff were really kind and friendly, and the interior space is cozy and clean.
